Thinking about buying pork from us but unsure how safe it is to buy meat online? Want to know how we deliver? All your questions answered below:

Is it safe to buy meat online?

Absolutely. All meat is delivered at some point, to the butcher, to the supermarket etc. In fact by buying from us you are cutting out the middle man and having the freshest products delivered straight to your door.

How is the meat delivered?

All our orders are packed in special boxes designed to keep heat out and cool in for up to 48 hours? An oversized ice pack is placed on the meat and the meat is delivered overnight via our Couriers.

Why do you only sell in packs?

No you can order some items individually. Packs are however more cost effective.

Do you offer a Quality Guarantee?

Absolutely. We are very proud of our products and try our best to ensure that you receive your goods in perfect condition. However if for any reason you are not happy with your purchase or feel that the goods are not fresh, please immediately contact us on: info@woodysfarm.co.nz or call 06 927 9993

Are your pigs really free range?

Yes. The meat industry is very good at creating terminology for different types of animal husbandry like barn raised, free farmed, higher welfare and free range. However we believe that our pigs should live outdoors all of the time and be able to exhibit their natural behaviours. We like to call our pigs and pork, Pasture Raised, because that is where they live.

Is free range more expensive?

This is not true, if you compare our prices with the supermarket you will find some cuts are cheaper and some more expensive. Our bacon and ham is cheaper than free farmed bacon (pigs kept indoors) and our sausages are far cheaper if you compare the percentage of meat in them (we are over 90%). We believe in a fair price for us and for you

Do you sell whole pigs?

No we do not sell whole pigs. We do not allow people to collect live pigs from the farm at any time.

Can I choose my own products or flavours in the packs?

Generally we can't let you choose your sausage flavours or cuts of meat. This is because our quantity of meat is limited to the number of pigs we take to the abattoir that week, we cannot buy more to ensure we have all flavours or cuts available. That said, most of our products are available to buy individually if you don't want to try a meat pack.

Why do the spare ribs smell sometimes?

By law we have to use vacuum packaging, we are not a fan of this packaging but are governed by MPI. This type of packaging stops air from getting to the meat and effectively stops the natural ageing of the meat. This creates a build up of lactic acid which can make the meat smell or become slimy, especially meat with bones intact (such as ribs or chops). The meat is still 100% fresh and we simply recommend you wash the meat under running water which will remove the smell. Please be assured that this meat is perfectly edible but if you are at all concerned we are happy to refund.

Are your sausages and bacon preservative and gluten free?

Most of our sausages and bacon are Gluten Free and contain a small amount of preservative to ensure our rare breed meat arrives at your home in perfect condition. The preservative we use is 0.03% sodium nitrite which is on the World Health Organization's List of Essential Medicines, the most important medications needed in a basic health system. Here is a document about the use of nitrites in bacon: http://chriskresser.com/the-nitrate-and-nitrite-myth-another-reason-not-to-fear-bacon. We now also have a range of nitrite and preservative free bacon and sausages that can be bought separately online.

Can I collect?

Yes absolutely, we would love you to collect and save the shipping fee. We are located in Levin and collection details are sent once you place an order.

How much does shipping cost?

Generally the shipping cost for up to 5kg is $12. If you order more this might rise to $20 depending on weight. Orders over $150 are shipped for free (discounts and vouchers are not included in the $150 cut off value)

For the South Island a 5kg order will costs $20, we know this is very expensive and we do not make money off the shipping cost, we simply pass on the cost from our courier, Courier Post.

Do you delivery to rural (off-shore) addresses?

We do not recommend delivery to rural addresses or off shore islands as this can take more than two days to arrive, we are unable to honour any satisfaction or delivery guarantees to these addresses (no refunds will be issued). We therefore recommend that if you are in a rural address (or off-shore) you should arrange to have your package delivered to a place or work, a friend or a local business that is on the mainland or not rural. Please also note that if your address is rural please ensure you state this on the order, failure to list your full address will void our guarantee to deliver on time.

Why is my payment duplicated in my account/have I paid twice?

If a pending transaction appears on your Card account twice, it does not necessarily mean your account will be billed twice. Certain Merchants, such as internet companies, may authorise a charge when you place an order. The Merchant may then authorise your Card again when the amount is due. In these instances, the charge may appear twice in Pending Transactions but will be billed to your account only once.
