Packaging

To insure freshness and chilled delivery on arrival we pack our orders with gel ice packs. They are reusable, and do not contain any chemical nasties or toxic ingredients. Gel ice packs can be reused in many ways such as keeping the lunch box food fresh and used at the local sports clubs as ice packs. When the time comes to dispose of your gel ice pack, follow these simple steps.

Icepack disposal

We are currently working on a returns procedure so that you can also send back your ice packs when you have amassed more than four. We will then professionally clean the ice bags and reuse them for future orders.

The reflective boxes designed to keep the heat out, and the cold in, can be recycled like any regular cardboard box in your paper recycling bin.

We are committed to switching to compostable plastic product packaging once the technology in NZ allows for mass composting (not just putting them in the bin as most people don't have compost bins at home). We use paper labels that are already compostable to label our products.

Farming

The pigs we receive from our farmers are delivered whole. This means no third-party processing which avoids extra cartons, plastics and mileage that the meat would have to travel. By butchering whole pigs using traditional methods we also reduce waste and have a extended selection of products such as charcuterie. The waste that we do have, such as bones, are recycled and used in protein powder.

100% NZ Free Range means every Pig, Cow, Goat & Alpaca was born and bred in New Zealand and lived outdoors for its entire life. The impact on our land is therefore less destructive as it's less intensive. Up to 60% of pork in NZ is imported from overseas, by buying local you are reducing the food miles traveled and therefore the CO2. Farmed in NZ also means adhering to NZ farming laws and better control of our feed, everything is GM free. Check out our blogs HERE discussing this in further detail.

    Local Ingredients

We also collaborate with as many local suppliers as we can to promote them and to reduce food miles. Fresh and high quality ingredients contribute to the best tasting products possible.

    Carbon Friendly

We are in the process of certifying our business as "carbon Friendly" by Ekos. This means that we are committed to offsetting our business emission by buying carbon credits to fund carbon friendly projects. The carbon level offset is estimated from our businesses core functions.
